Editors are great assets to have in film production. But rarely does a producer speak on their editor in the way Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, the Creator & Executive Producer of MAKEMATION, who’s also the founder of Rise Interactive Studios and Rise Networks, speaks about Adio Solanke.
Like defensive midfielders in football, editors are underrated. And like defensive midfielders, they provide cover for everyone.
Let me break it down further.
Defenders in football are responsible for making sure that their team does not lose the ball or concede to their opponents. In filmmaking the filming team works to produce great footage.
Attackers in football score the goals that win the games. They piggyback off the work of the defenders to do this. In filmmaking, the promotion team piggyback on the work of the filming team to “score goals” — to grab the audiences’ attention and get them to the cinemas.
Who links both sides in football? The Defensive Midfielder.
In filmmaking? The Editor.
These unsung heroes actually enjoy going unnoticed. Adio Solanke’s work on MAKEMATION, however, is too good not to publicly give him his flowers.

“One of my Best Decisions While Creating MAKEMATION,”: TAO on Adio Solanke
Olusola Jimi Solanke, professionally known as Adio Solanke, is an editor who has worked with multiple producers for television commercials. He is an indie filmmaker and a creative director for hire. He also has roots in Nollywood, which earned him an AMVCA nomination in 2023 for Best Picture Editor.
Toyosi says he is one of her finest discoveries and champions on the project. His unique editing is what stood him out among many when Toyosi was assembling her team for MAKEMATION.
“As you know, this is my first film project,” the MAKEMATION EP began. “I sifted through so many editors to get the one I would click with, and I felt that click with Adio Solanke.
“That decision turned out to be one of the best decisions I made for this film. His unique style influenced many of the directions we took in filming, and I am excited to show what we created together.”
