Governor Sanwo-Olu Unveils MAKEMATION: Nollywood’s Future!

Are you ready for some premium entertainment?

Here in Lagos, Nigeria, Africa’s first feature film on Artificial Intelligence, MAKEMATION, just got the Lagos State Governor’s co-sign!

On Sunday 9th March 2025, Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, Founder and CEO/MD of Rise Networks and Rise Interactive Studios, and the executive producer of MAKEMATION, led the cast and crew of this groundbreaking film to the Governor’s House in Marina, to see His Excellency, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, to officially present the film to the Lagos State government.

The governor and all the dignitaries present were pleased with the film and its portrayal of the Lagos spirit, which was reassuring to the EP, her crew and the cast. The governor was especially pleased with the collaborative efforts of tech and Nollywood that made the film.

Governor Sanwo-Olu lauds the MAKEMATION cast and crew

“This production exemplifies the potential of collaborative effort,” the Governor told everyone seated in the hall during the unveiling. Then he added: “We need to see more partnerships of this nature. As a government, our mission is to provide platforms that enable creative individuals to thrive.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu then went on to post the following message on his X (formerly Twitter) page:

“We have consistently prioritised the growth of our creative industry and believe that fostering creativity and innovation is crucial for our state’s development. By supporting initiatives like this, we aim to promote our talented filmmakers and artists while showcasing technology’s immense potential in storytelling. Together, we are building a vibrant creative ecosystem that entertains, drives economic growth, and positions Lagos as a leading hub for the arts in Africa.”

The hall lit up with every positive comment that the governor made about the film. The hall lit up even more when Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji took the microphone.

“Viewers will see young people designing bras that detect breast cancer. We must move beyond consuming innovation and start building our own. Nigerian films should showcase our indigenous innovations. This film is for the future. Success isn’t reserved for a select few!”

The applause was loud, and the hall felt the wonderful vibes! The approval from the big names like Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture; Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, Commissioner for Innovation, Science & Technology, to the queen of Nigerian cinema herself, Mo Abudu were glowing!

Governor Sanwo-Olu said it best: “This project is about to put Lagos on the global map!”

MAKEMATION goes to cinemas worldwide on April 18, 2025.
