Sanwo-Olu announces Africa’s First AI-themed film, Makemation (The Nation)

Africa’s first feature film centred on technology and artificial intelligence, titled Makemation, is set to premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on April 18, 2025, during the Easter weekend.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the announcement on his X handle, expressing enthusiasm for the landmark production and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the creative industry.

The release of Makemation marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian film industry, solidifying Lagos State’s status as a thriving centre for technological and artistic innovation.

Sanwo-Olu wrote: “We have consistently prioritised the growth of our creative industry and believe that fostering creativity and innovation is crucial for our state’s development.”

He emphasised that Lagos State’s support for such initiatives is part of a broader vision to empower filmmakers and artists while demonstrating the role of technology in storytelling.

Governor Sanwo-Olu further highlighted the broader economic and cultural impact of the creative industry on Lagos, positioning it as a key driver of growth.

“Together, we are building a vibrant creative ecosystem that entertains, drives economic growth, and positions Lagos as a leading hub for the arts in Africa.”
